Legal status

Is psilocybin therapy legal in Colorado?

Colorado's Natural Medicine Health Act created a state-licensed program for regulated natural medicine services. Adults 21 and older can receive psilocybin services from a licensed facilitator at a licensed healing center.

The Department of Revenue's Natural Medicine Division licenses natural medicine businesses - healing centers, cultivations, manufacturers and testing facilities - and their owners and employees. Healing centers hold either a standard license or a micro license; a micro-Healing Center is a tier that does not store more than 750 milligrams of total psilocin on site. Healing center applicants must show that the proposed address is permitted under the local jurisdiction's zoning laws.

Psilocybin remains a Schedule I controlled substance under federal law. State licensing and federal status are separate matters. This directory discusses licensed Colorado services, not access outside that program.

Limits set by the state - a facilitator may not practice medicine or provide psychotherapy alongside natural medicine, and may not serve participants taking lithium or antipsychotic medications.

How a session works

Preparation session - a meeting with a facilitator before an administration session. An initial consultation or a general inquiry does not count as preparation. Expect written informed consent first.

Administration session - a session at a licensed healing center, or another location the rules allow, where a participant experiences regulated natural medicine under a licensed facilitator's supervision. This guide gives no doses or usage instructions.

Integration session - a meeting with a facilitator after an administration session. Ask whether it is included and how follow-up is arranged.

Cost guide

This guide does not quote prices or suggest a typical range. Ask each center for its written pricing.

Before paying, ask what the quoted total includes: whether the preparation, administration and integration sessions are included or billed separately, whether there are other fees, and what the payment, cancellation and refund terms are. Ask each center directly whether it accepts insurance or offers payment plans.

Compare the services described alongside the price. A higher or lower price does not establish suitability or a particular result.
